From January 1, 2019, employers will be able to maintain and store employee documentation in the form they choose – paper or electronic. There is also a possibility to change the form of documentation from paper to electronic or vice versa.
Employers will also have new information obligations towards employees, including information regarding:
- the period of storage of the employee documentation,
- the possibility to receive the employee documentation by an employee,
- destruction of employee documentation if it was not collected on time.

The period of storage of the personal and payroll documentation of employees has been shortened to 10 years. The shortened storage period of the documentation applies to employees employed after January 1, 2019. The shortened period may also be applied to employees employed after December 31, 1998, if the employer submits relevant information reports regarding all employees employed in this period.
